I am a bit late with this post, as I had other things on my mind. still for the records:
Second Life almost turns 5. This, of course is a reason to give a big celebration. Like in previous years, Linden labs invites (self) identified groups, to claim a piece of land, and exhibit their second life culture.
However, this year, linden labs explicitly refused 3 groups to take participation in this exhibit:
- Goreans
- BDSM People
- Children of Second Life
The reason is simple.. Certain right winged Politicians, and fear monging Media do see these groups as dangerous, and in the end Sales of Linden Labs might suffer from it.
Although i understand the need for a company to make profit, I also see that, if you are in to the business of socializing, you will have to stand up for the right of people. If you don;t do that, you should have started another business.
Also historically, I think Linden Labs owes much on the presence of the above named groups. Each of them have been around from the beginning, made Second Life grow with their content, and always have helped out newbies form all places and walks.
However, It seems that people started to protest. Not only the Second Life Kids, but also other groups. Then Linden labs came with the explanation that there was a misunderstanding, and that theses groups, provided they only build pg rated stuff (witch is quite all right as it is a general rule), are allowed to exhibit too.
Mean while many of the Kids of Second Life grouped and formed an union once again (was about freaking time.. but well.. i am glad they did). Since it still was out that we were not allowed to participate, The idea was born to make our own exhibit. 2 sims were donated to this cause, over 150.000 lindens and of course a large group of builders.
Some have expressed that we are not working in union, as to make a single style looking sim, but in my opinion.. I am glad we do not, as a sim with lots of styles does actually show better what Us second Life children are about. They even managed to turn this old grumpy kid into building; I am building a light version of the docks i once had. Feel free to come and visit me
The truth is that, when i heard the news about the child avatars of second life being excluded, I started out to not really care. Second life, for me had lost most of its value to me. It was not longer a place i would call home. Btu now i have seen how we, as second life children still can form an union, and do great things, I start to believe in Second Life again.

It’s great to have you in the project, and seeing the dock again, even if it looks different, makes good old memories coming up. And knowing that it will most like be stay there with the whole SIM is really good news

I’m really quite disgusted with the fact that the kids of SL being excluded from helping to celebrate SL’s 5th birthday… it annoys the heck out of me… in ways that I must curb my tongue.
Once again, SL has bowed to the pressures from without … and in turn have discriminated against people/avatars who have done and continue to do nothing wrong.
I’m glad the kids are doing their own thing. And, I especially glad that you, “grumpy kid” is building… and a version of your dock. I can’t wait to see it!
Yay SL kids! We rock!!
