You have the ability to upload sound clips of maximum 10 seconds per clip. You can use them in gestures, objects, or just for fun. The 10 seconds maximum are a way of linden labs to be certain they will not breach copyright, since everyone is allowed to use 10 second samples of whatever sound.
If you want to upload sounds into Second life, the have to be in a specific format. They have to be a WAV file, sampled at 44.1 KHz with stereo channels. This is very important, as Second life will refuse to upload other sampled or mono channel sounds.
The main quest therefor is, to ind a program that allows you to resample lower KHz or mono channel sounds. Not all programs out there are able to do that.

Amazingly, it is one of the better soudneditors arround. Not as extended as Audacity, but still doing everything i want. The capability t o read and write as mp3, and to force the 44.1 KHz frequency and stereo channels on wav files makes it ideal for my purposes. You can not buy it separate, but it comes with the Nero cd burn software. - Wavemaker (slurl)
